3 DAYS – GOMBE CHIMPANZEE & LAKE TANGANYIKA ADVENTURE

Your adventure begins in Kigoma, where you will be collected and transferred by boat across the spectacular waters of Lake Tanganyika towards Gombe National Park.

The boat journey itself is an unforgettable experience, offering beautiful views of the lake, surrounding mountains and coastline.

Upon arrival at Gombe, complete your park registration before heading into the forest for your first chimpanzee trekking experience.

Accompanied by an experienced park guide, you will walk through the lush forest in search of Gombe’s famous chimpanzee communities. Trekking time depends on the location and movements of the chimpanzees and may take several hours.

Keep your eyes open for other wildlife and listen carefully to the sounds of the forest. Your guide will introduce you to the fascinating ecology of Gombe and explain the behaviour, communication and social lives of chimpanzees.

After the trek, return to Kasekela for lunch and some time to relax.

In the late afternoon, enjoy the peaceful shores of Lake Tanganyika. Depending on conditions and your interests, you can swim, snorkel or simply relax while watching the sun disappear over the lake.

Enjoy dinner beside the lake, followed by a memorable beach bonfire under the African night sky.

Wake up to the sounds of the forest and enjoy breakfast before setting out for another exciting day in Gombe.

After breakfast, begin your second chimpanzee trekking experience.

Your guide will lead you deeper into the forest as you search for chimpanzee communities. Depending on where the chimpanzees are located, the trek can involve steep and challenging forest trails — making the experience both adventurous and rewarding.

As you explore Gombe, learn how researchers have spent decades studying chimpanzees and how their discoveries transformed our understanding of our closest living relatives.

Kakombe Waterfall

Continue your forest adventure to Kakombe Waterfall, one of Gombe’s beautiful natural attractions. The walk through the forest provides an opportunity to appreciate the park’s rich vegetation, birdlife and spectacular scenery.

Jane Goodall’s Research Legacy

Visit places associated with Jane Goodall’s pioneering work, learning about the research that began in Gombe in 1960 and continues to influence chimpanzee conservation and scientific understanding around the world.

Return to camp for lunch and relaxation.

In the afternoon, enjoy free time beside Lake Tanganyika. Swim, relax on the beach, or simply enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of one of Africa’s great lakes.

Evening

As the sun sets over Lake Tanganyika, enjoy another dinner and a relaxing bonfire by the beach.

After breakfast, prepare for your third chimpanzee trekking experience (subject to the number of permits included in your selected package and park regulations).

This final forest adventure gives you another opportunity to observe Gombe’s chimpanzees and discover more of their remarkable world.

Your guide will help you understand the connection between chimpanzee conservation, scientific research and the protection of Gombe’s unique forest ecosystem.

After the forest experience, enjoy some free time along the shores of Lake Tanganyika.

Have lunch before boarding your boat for the scenic journey back to Kigoma.
