6 DAYS – LUSHOTO, MWANGOI TO MTAE

Upon arrival at Lushoto bus terminal you will be picked from bus terminal transfered to your overnight accommodation (HB)

Distance : Approx 18km
Hiking duration: 4 hours

After your breakfast at 08:30am we start the hike passing through beautiful landscapes and natural forests where you will explore and learn several species of trees, flora and fauna plants. Admire to rich vegetation, colourful birds, butterflies, chameleons and monkeys. You will pass through the village of Magamba till you reach Lukozi village head direct to your accommodation for your lunch, dinner and overnight.

Hiking duration: 4 hours

After breakfast at around 09:00am proceed hiking from Lukozi passing through Malindi village see local settlements of mbugu and pare tribes, their farms and way of living. You will then start descending welcomed with gorgeous landscapes of Mwangoi village rolling before your eyes.

Upon arrival at Mwangoi village you will have your lunch thereafter head direct to Mwamboa beekeeping group office and learn about history and activities of this organised group mainly beekeeping procedures, bees life circle and how they make honey and their general life.

You will wear a suit to visit a demonstration hive and see what happens inside the hive. Mr Ngoda will share with you the workings of an operational productive hive, see the smoking process, open their home and check out their different stages of development.

You will get a great insight as to what they do with Honey, Pollen and Propolis within the hive, hold a frame of bees and touch the honeycomb. This is an excellent photo opportunity.

Upon conclusion of the tour you will taste some of the best honey in the world that is being produced by magical Usambara mountains bees.

NOTE: if you won’t wear a proper boot or rubber either trouser and pullover the beehive won’t be opened instead you will have a theory information a little far from the hives.

After the bee demonstration you will be taken to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Hiking duration: 6/7 hours

After your breakfast at 08:00 resume your hike passing through Dule village to Shagayu natural forest likely to see Monkeys, Chameleons, butterflies, insects, birds and beautiful landscapes. Pass through the forest waterfalls enjoy the rolling, bumping and jumping waterfalls for a while then proceeds till you reach Magumba cottages an awesome accommodation for experiencing Usambara sunset, superb sceneries and viewpoint.

From this angle of Usambara mountains you will see Mkomazi national park, Pare mountains and Mount Kilimanjaro at glance.

Distance: 55km
Driving distance: 2 hours

This will be the end day of your gorgeous Mtae hiking program. After breakfast and little rest at 10:00am the transfer will pick you from the Lodge to pottery women and learn how these women mould pots using clay soil, buy some easy to carry as gift the start heading back to Lushoto town.

NOTE: As you will arrive at noon hours in Lushoto then you have ample time for another activity like Coffee tour and tasting either Lushoto town visit.
