Explore colonial landmarks, vibrant local markets and historic churches, while experiencing authentic village life in Kitivo. The tour also includes a visit to Bulla Garden, home of the famous African Violet (Usambara Veilchen), blending heritage, culture and nature in the Usambara Mountains.
Trip Itinerary
DAY 1 : ARRIVAL AT LUSHOTO
Upon arrival at Lushoto Bus Terminal, you will be warmly welcomed by our team and transferred to your selected accommodation.
Take time to relax and enjoy the cool mountain climate as you prepare for the adventure ahead. Dinner will be served at your lodge.

DAY 2 : LUSHOTO TOWN HERITAGE WALKING TOUR
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Lushoto town to begin your guided cultural and historical walking tour.
Start at the Old Colonial Administrative Building (currently the District Commissioner’s Office), where you will learn about the German colonial history and architectural design. Continue to the Old Post Office Building, followed by a visit to the Old German Hospital, located adjacent to the Old Colonial Prison, which is still in use today.
Proceed to the former German Colonial Hotel, now serving as Roman Catholic Church, and explore its unique historical transformation. You will then pass through the vibrant Lushoto Local Market, where local farmers sell fresh produce and goods.
Continue your walk to the peaceful Old Colonial Cemetery, offering insight into the early settlers of the region, before heading to the historic Anglican Church, one of the first colonial churches established in Lushoto.
The tour then takes you to Kitivo Village, where you will experience local life and learn how sugarcane is processed into traditional products including fresh juice, local brew and distilled spirits. You will have an opportunity to taste these products.
On your way back, pass through the beautiful Bulla Garden, filled with roses and a variety of flowers. Here, you will learn about the famous Usambara Violet (African Violet), a plant originally discovered in the Usambara Mountains and later introduced to Germany (Usambara Veilchen) during the colonial period.
Your day concludes at a local restaurant in Lushoto town, where you will enjoy a delicious hot meal.
