Visit the Usambara Mountains in Tanzania and hike in ancient forests which are ecologically unique. The quaint German style town of Lushoto is the gateway to this beautiful area.
About Usambara Mountains
The Usambaras consist of two mountain blocks; the smaller is the East Usambaras lying closer to the coast with slightly higher rainfall. This block is less populated and its primary attraction is the Amani Nature Reserves, approached from Muheza, with its botanical garden, butterfly farming, tea & spice plantations. The West Usambaras are separated from the East by a valley and are approached via the district centre of Lushoto.
Usambara Mountain
The mountains boast of over 3000 plant species in total and over 600 tree species. The Usambaras are part of the Eastern Arc Mountains which run parallel to the Tanzanian coast extending into Taita Hills in Kenya, and recognized as one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. This exceptional diversity attracts naturalists and nature lovers from all over the world who come to watch birds, study trees and flowers or butterflies.

Thank you so much 🙏Posted on Tripadvisor Cruiser11126721198Verified Help With the chaotic bus System We are the kind of tourists who like to know the day before which bus we will be taking the next day. Emmanuel helped us with this. It was all a bit chaotic, but we were spared the stress of haggling at the main terminal in Dar es Salaam and we even got tips on how much we should spend on what. In the end, the bus trip went smoothly, we had seats and the local people took good care of us, telling us when and where to get on. Price okay !Posted on Tripadvisor Anastasiia PVerified Green Wonderland Beyond Imagination No photo matches Usambara’s lush views & Kisasa Falls—Mussa’s tour + Anmut Hostel bliss. No photo truly captures the breathtaking beauty of the Usambara Mountains—lush greenery, serene viewpoints, and the stunning Kisasa Waterfalls. I was lucky to have Mussa, a native-born guide, give me an unforgettable tour full of insight and hidden gems. I stayed at Anmut Hostel, the perfect quiet escape for nature lovers, with outstanding hospitality and kindness from Emmanuel and his wonderful team. Living in busy, polluted Dar es Salaam, this felt like the ultimate gateway to peace and nature.Posted on Tripadvisor Nils SVerified Adventure in Usambara Emmanuel was a very good guide and host, we had a wonderful trip through the Usambara Mountains with many different fun activities. If you want to experience something in Usambara, Emmanuel is definitely the right person for you. He show you the beautiful Usambara forests while hiking, and with luck, you'll also spot chameleons. But there's more to discover than just the forest and animals. A traditional coffee roastery is also part of the Adventure, which is super interesting and you learn a lot. After such an adventure, you'll definitely want to sleep, which is a great place to do at Anmut with Emanuel. If you want, you can of course have dinner at Anmut, which is prepared by Grace and tastes delicious. In summary, I can say that a visit to the Usambara Mountains with Emmanuel is definitely worth it.Posted on Tripadvisor AnnaVerified The best guide in Lushoto Emmanuel was an amazing guide! I was solo travelling so it was so nice to have such an attentive and friendly guide. He was very informative about the local area, was careful to make sure I could walk at my own pace and helped me down numerous hill (I have the worlds least grippy shoes!). I really enjoyed chatting to him about all sorts of topics (and especially admired his passion for beekeeping and how it can impact local people in the area!) Thanks Emmanuel for an amazing time in Lushoto- I’ll send anyone I know your way!Posted on Tripadvisor Sean BVerified Amazing experience in the Usambaras! Amazing experience with Emmanuel!
